Guskara

Guskara is a city and a municipality in Barddhaman district of the eastern state of India, West Bengal. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Ausgram police station of Sadar subdivision. Guskara is situated in the alluvial flood plains of several rivers. The Kunur River flows through the city.

The demography of the town as published in the 2001 India census report, throws some light on few aspects of the place. Guskara had a population of 31,863 according to that report. Males constitute 52% of the population and females constitute 48% of the population. In Guskara,12% of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of the town is 66%. This rate is higher than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. To be specific, the male literacy rate is 72% and the female literacy rate is 59%. This reflects that the inhabitants of the place take interest in education. The city has sixteen primary schools, one upper primary and secondary school each and three higher secondary schools.

The city is famous for its handicrafts especially the dokra art castings.
