Guneet Monga is an Indian film producer who is associated with prominent Bollywood films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, The Lunchbox and Peddlers. She is the line producer and the co-founder of a film production company named Sikhya Entertainment. She also works as the CEO at Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd. (AKFPL) which she joined in the year 2009. She is accredited for bridging the gap between Indian films and foreign buyers and distributors. She also rendered a facelift to independent cinema in India.
Early Life of Guneet Monga
Guneet Monga was born on 21st November 1983. She was brought up in Delhi and earned a degree from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, in mass communications.
Career of Guneet Monga
After completing her education in 2003 Guneet Monga began working as production coordinator in Delhi for international productions including Vic Sarin`s Partition. In the year 2006 she moved to Mumbai and started working for a cricket based film titled Say Salaam India which released in 2007. In the following year, 2008, she worked for the movie Dasvidaniya and Rang Rasiya. Subsequently in the year 2009 while she was working for the film, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai under the production of Balaji Telefilms, she met the famed director and producer Anurag Kashyap. Later in the same year she joined Anurag Kashyap Films.
The first major international film of Guneet Monga was the short film Kavi, which received the nomination for 2010 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. The film was based on bonded labour and was director by Gregg Helvey. In 2009 the film won the Student Academy Award - Narrative. In 2008 she established her own production company named Sikhya Entertainment along with a line production company. She worked with Anurag Kashyap for films like That Girl in Yellow Boots, Gangs of Wasseypur Part I and II, Aiyyaa, Michael, Shaitan and Trishna.
She also produced Monsoon Shootout in collaboration with Yaffle Films, UK, and The Lunchbox. The latter was shown at Torino Film Lab, Berlinale Co-Production Market, Cinemart and Film Bazaar. She was credited as the most prolific producers of a new wave of cinema when two of her films namely Monsoon Shootout and The Lunchbox (Dabba) got selected for a midnight screening at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and the International Critics` Week respectively. Bollywood flicks Shahid and Mickey Virus were also produced by her.
