The East Champaran has the tallest stupa at a height of 104ft. but still shorter than its original height, due to earthquake. In its ruined state it is still one feet taller than the famous Borobodur Stupa in Java. The Kesaria stupa was 150 ft high.
The Sanchi Stupa is only 77.5 ft. It has six terraces and the diameter is as wide as that of the Borobodur stupa. But it could be larger a large section is under the earth still and needs to be excavated. The Stupa commemorates Lord Buddha staying here and it was that he handed over his begging bowl to the people ob his last journey to Kushinagara where he breathed his last. In order to mark this moment a mud Stupa was built here. During the Maurya, Shunga and Kushana period it was made in brick Stupa with many additions.
