Floral Display and Victual Banquet: With the arrival of the penultimate week of the first month of the year, rapturous memories of the exuberant celebrations of the `New Year` still linger in the minds. Various parts of the district and inundated with flowers, wild and mild with their piquant fragrance wafting through the air.
Feasts are organized as part of the annual celebrations at a number of Churches, Mosques and Temples during their respective periods as well.
Erumeli PettaThullal: Erumeli hosts this traditional festival. The pilgrims on their way to Sabharimala halt here, offer prayers in Vavar Mosque and indulge in the legendary `Petta Thullal`, at Sastha Temple which is, unconstrained dancing in Divine Ecstasy. This occurs in the month of January.
Vaikomashtami: This is a 12 day festival which usually falls in between November and December. Elephant processions, fireworks and cultural performances like the Kathakali, Ottamthullal and musical recitals etc. are some of the highlights.
Ettumanoor Ezharapponnana: Arattu ritual, Elephant processions, procession of devotees, etc., is part of the celebrations.
Chandanakudam: The `Chandana-kudam` or `Sandal Pot` is a 2 day festival. Cultural performances like music, dance, drama and fireworks add to the celebrations.
Ponadu Chootu Padayani: The Bhagavathy Temple at Meenachil taluk celebrates this festival annually. Devotees perform clockwise reverential circumambulation carrying lighted palm fronds and hit one another with the burning fronds as part of the ritual.
Better Home Exhibition: An exclusive fair of household articles and domestic utensils help better homes. This is held between the 2nd and the 6th October every year.
