Deepak Chopra`s Buddha, also simply known as Buddha, is an Indian comics series, published and distributed in India and abroad by Liquid Comics, which was earlier known as Virgin Comics. The central characters in Indian comics series Buddha are based on the real life of Lord Buddha. The concept and story is written by Medical Doctor and author Deepak Chopra and illustration is by Harshvardhan Kadam and other artists of Liquid Comics. The comic miniseries is based on the novel Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment, written by Deepak Chopra and published in the year 2007.
Content of Buddha
The contemporary Indian comics series titled Buddha revolves around the tale of a young prince who discards his royal inheritance in order to discover a higher spiritual purpose. The legendary journey revealed several truths and transformed the world eternally. His teachings have influence and inspired people from every part of the world. According to the author, the illustrated Indian comics depicts the life of Lord Buddha in three phases, that is in the phase of a Prince, the phase of a Monk and the final phase, the Enlightened Buddha. The first phase of the plot is pregnant with adventure and mystery. The next phase emphasizes on journey of Lord Buddha in search of the answers to his existential speculations. The final phase of Deepak Chopra`s Buddha deals with the period of attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. This phase also includes most of the valuable teachings of Lord Buddha.
The young Prince, in line for the royal throne, is entrapped in the kingdom of his father and desires to see the real world that exists outside. After being betrayed by those who were close to him, Prince Siddhartha leaves his princely designation and abandons the royal palace to discover the real world filled with sorrow and agony. After facing several forms of evil, Siddhartha becomes a wandering monk and begins a spiritual fast which takes him on the verge of death. Eventually Siddhartha realized that he is unable to conquer his mind and body by will power only. Siddhartha rises above his physical pain and ultimately attains spiritual enlightenment.
