Dadu Raghu Sarode Indurikar

Dadu Raghu Sarode Indurikar was born in Induri, Pune district in the year 1921. He came from a family of professional Tamasha actors. He received training from his father, grandfather, and Mukunda Lahiri, all renowned Tamasha artistes. After his father`s death, Indurikar founded his own phad or troupe and performed for over twenty years. During that tenure he had to suffer heavy financial losses and debts. Then he came across Shankarrao Ghanekar, an imaginative and resourceful theatre person, and went on to stage an old vag or scenario by Hariba Wadgaonkar, Gadhawache lagna i.e. `Donkey`s Marriage`, under the banner of Jasraj Theatre. This was an instant success. It reached his name all over Maharashtra. He never looked back. Through his sense of humour, intelligent and ready wit, perfect timing, and elastic movements, which endeared him to audiences, Indurikar contributed greatly to Tamasha`s development and enrichment.
