Curzon Gate, Bardhaman, West BengalConstructed by Italian masons, the Curzon Gate was built in 1902 and is located in the Bardhaman city in Purba Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal. The Gate was built on the special occasion of the coronation of Maharaja Bijay Chand Mahatab about a kilo metre away from the former royal palace. It was during Lord Curzon"s visit to Bardhaman in 1904, when the gate was named as Curzon Gate in honour of the Viceroy.

Architecture of Curzon Gate
The arch of the Curzon Gate is supported by 8 circular columns and there are 21 circles with 21 illustrations at the top portion of the gate. On the arch there are 3 female figurines, with swords, boats, and sheaves of corn in their hands, which signify progress in agriculture and commerce.

Post- Independence, the gate was referred to as Bijoy Toran but it is still popular as Curzon Gate. The gate is located at the crossing of Bijoy Chand Road and Grand Trunk Road and from 1974; the gate is being maintained by the Public Works Department of the Government of West Bengal.
