Citampara Cuvamikal

Citampara Cuvamikal was an eminent author, poet and scholar from the Tamil country. The poet composed numerous literary and poetic works in Tamil language and lived during the post-medieval time. Citampara Cuvamikal was a hermit poet who lived the reclusive life of a Sanyasin and belonged to the Vira Shaiva sect of Hinduism. He composed several religious and devotional works in Tamil that made significant contribution in Tamil literature and are praiseworthy.

Citampara Cuvamikal was the successor and disciple of the renowned Tamil poet Cantalihika Cuvamikal, who lived during the 18th century and was also a Sanyasin. One of his most popular literary works includes the Nencuvitututu. Citampara Cuvamikal also composed an extended verse on the goddess Minatci. The hermit poet wrote many interesting poetic works like Ucal, Tutut, Kilippattu, Kuyilpattu, Tiruppalliyelucci, Talattu and Pillaittamil that are devoted to Lord Murukan or Murugan (also known as Lord Kartikeya), the presiding deity at Tirupporur.

Among the previous works composed by him, three of them, namely, Tiruppalliyelucci, Ataikkalappattu and Kuyilpattu, contain many similarities with Tiruvacakam, both in terms of lucidity of style, composition and the capability to enthrall and fascinate the hearts of the readers.
