Together they established their duet team and are regarded as pioneers in modern Ghazal singing. Today they have been considered as the advocators of modern Ghazal singing.

Early Life of Chitra Singh
Chitra singh was born to a Bengali family and was brought up in a culturally well groomed ambience. She did not have any formal technical musical training. She learned music basically by following the music teacher of her mother.

Career of Chitra Singh
In the late 1960s, when Chitra Singh met Jagjit Singh, they started their career together. For various advertisements they have lent their voice in singing jingles. With the release of the album The Unforgettables, their career geared up. The most important thing about the album was that it achieved the honour of being the first album that indoctrinated the concept of Ghazal Gayaki. The Ghazal Gayaki has been mainly patronised by the elite group of people.

Apart from rendering Ghazal, they have also composed as well as sung for many other languages like Hindi, Punjabi and Bengali. They have also released many albums in those languages also. Krishna, Chirag, Hey Ram, Shabads are the albums released by them. These are mainly the devotional albums. In its category, the album Krishna has been considered as one of the largest selling titles. Some albums to their credit are A Milestone in the year 1976; The Unforgettables in the year 1978; Gold Disc in the year 1979; Ae Mere Dil in the year 1980.

Personal Life of Chitra Singh
Chitra She had a daughter named Monica, from a previous marriage, but she committed suicide in the year 2009. Moreover, Jagjit and Chitra also underwent a traumatic turmoil. Unfortunately, their son Vivek Singh died of a road accident. As the after shock of this traumatic experience, Chitra Singh stopped rendering and confined herself into a private world of her own.
