Charles Cornelius, the former Indian Hockey player, has been the winner of Bronze and Silver medals at world championships.

Charles Cornelius, Indian Hockey PlayerCharles Cornelius is a celebrated former Indian Hockey goalkeeper who also owns the fame of being an Olympic Medallist. He has been a representative of the Indian national Hockey team in the 1973 Hockey World Cup and the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran. Born on 27th October 1945, he began his professional career in the year 1977 as a Coach for the Punjab Hockey Team. In 2001 he retired as an Administrator-Officer on Special Duty (OSD-South Zone). He has bagged Bronze Medal at World Championships in 1971 and Silver Medal at the World Championships in 1973.

In the year 1980 Charles Cornelius got chosen by the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) as a Special Trainer for Hockey Goal Keeping. He was also appointed as the National Hockey Coach for SAI, Sports Authority of India, during which he imparted training to both Junior and the Senior Hockey teams (Men). Since the year 1980 he has also been the member of the Selection Committee for the Junior and Senior National Hockey teams. For more than 15 years Charles Cornelius was also successful in dealing on behalf of NIS (National Institute of Sports) as a Zonal Officer for the South Zone (jurisdiction for the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep) with the State Government and State Sports Councils, Snipes Field Stations and Nehru Yuvak Kendras.

Charles Cornelius has also been responsible for overseeing and managing the Field Wing Coaches of the jurisdictions with his expertise on the field work. In the year 1980 he worked as one of the administrators for the Asian Games. He also functioned as the same for SAF Games in 1995 and several other international tournaments organized in India.
