Chandan Fort

Chandan Fort is located in the Satara District of Maharashtra adjacent to the Vandan Fort. They both were built by Raja Bhoj-II in 1191-1192.

History of Chandan Fort
According to the manuscripts, Chhandan and Vandan Forts were built by king Bhoj-II of Shilahar Dynasty in 1191-1192. Shivaji won these forts from Adilshah of Bijapur in 1673. It was under the control of the Marathas till 1689 after it passed in the hand of Mughals. In 1707 it was won by Ch. Shahu Maharaj.

Structure of Chandan Fort
Chandan Fort is still in good condition but the main entrance of the fort is in ruins. The fort is consisted of Gaus Pak Baba (Mebub-e-Subhani) Dargah, water cistern, and bastion and a Shiva temple with two Linga sculptures. The fort has peculiar stone piled structure. The path to the fort passes through an open area of vegetation and then through the piles. On the southern part of the fort, there are three rooms built out of stone without any roof. They are believed to be store rooms.

Visiting Information to Chandan Fort
Pune Airport and Satara Railway Station are the nearest to visit the fort. National Highway 16 and 65 connect Satara District to other parts of the country.
