The different sections of the Purana cover the comprehensive description of the creation of cosmos, discussion about the time as a dimension and the details of Kalpa and Yuga. In addition, there is a wide range of description of certain dynasties like the houses of Bharata, Prithu, Deva, Rishi and Agni. It also contains the Adhyatma Ramayana in seven parts.

In the twelve thousand verses, contained in the Purana, the vedangas and Adi Kalpa are also described. It is believed that it is `uttama` (best) to gift this book to a Brahmin.
