Bokar is the sub-tribe of Adi of Arunachal Pradesh. This is mainly inhabited in Mechukha, Monigong, Pidi and Tato regions of the state. Bokar tribal people are culturally and traditionally very rich. Their economy is based on cultivation of maize, millet, paddy with vegetable items. Maize is used as their staple food crop. However, with the introduction of Public Distribution System (PDS) by the government, food habits among the Bokar tribal people have drastically changed. They also raise domestic animals.
Festival of Bokar Tribe
Podi-Barbi festival is the prime festival of this tribe, which is celebrated every year on 5th of December. The festival is celebrated in the harvesting season, when the insect arrives at the region and it is celebrated in order to welcome the harvesting season and to extend thankfulness to the nature for a great harvest in current year. They also pray for sufficient growth of crops in coming years and also pray for ample hunting of wild animals. During this day men and women wear traditional attire. Sacrifice of domestic animals is another feature of the celebration and the ritual is performed by local priest called Nyubu.
