Bhuta Shuddhi

Bhuta shuddhi is considered as a rite in the Mantra-mahodadhi. It is an introductory rite to the worship of a Deva. Evolution from the Para-Brahman has been described. Through this ritual a mental process of involvement takes place but the body is resolved into the source from whence it has come. Earth is linked to the sense of smell, water, taste, fire, sight, air, touch, ether and sound. The Kundalini is awakened and this leads to svadhishthana Chakra. The element of earth is dissolved by water as water is softened by "fire, fire is dissolved by air and air is thereby dissolved by ether.

This is absorbed by a higher production and that by a higher and this process continues. This is done until the source is reached. After each maha bhuta element has been dissolved together with the subtle element from which it proceeds. The connected organ of sense by another, the worshipper absorbs the last element ether with the tan-matra sound into ahangkara. In accordance with Vedanta`s monistic teaching, Prakriti is herself thought of as the Brahman, of which she is the force and with which she is already one. The black Purusha is the image of all sin. The body is purified by mantra that is accompanied by kumbhaka and rechaka. The sadhaka meditates upon the new celestial body which has been made and strengthened by a "celestial gaze."
