Bhausaheb Bapurao Khude Narayangaonkar

Bhausaheb Bapurao Khude Narayangaonkar was a tamasha artist. He was born in Narayangaon, Pune district in 1912 in the state of Maharashtra. He performed in the phad or troupe run by his father and uncle, along with his mother, aunt, and cousins. He also received training from Patthe Bapurao Retharekar. In 1945, his uncle died and he had to shoulder the responsibility of the phad. His famous vags or scenarios comprised Tanaji Malusareznd Mumbaichi kelewali or "Banana Seller of Mumbai". With this he toured all over Maharashtra. Gifted with a high-pitched voice and instant wit, he was fired with the urge to reform Tamasha and devoted his entire life to its development. After his death, his daughter Vithabai continued the family tradition. He was the first Indian folk performer honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, in 1961. Bhausaheb Bapurao Khude Narayangaonkar died in 1957 at the age of 45.
