Bhakti Bhagavata Mahakavyam
Bhakti Bhagavata Mahakavyam, an epic poetry in Oriya, is attributed to Jivadevacarya. There are 32 cantos in the poem.
Background of Bhakti Bhagavata Mahakavyam
It is said that the poet accompanied the King to the battlefield at Venkatadri and composed the piece there. The last verse of this work states that the poem was composed in three hours. The colophon of this work clearly states about the poets and his family. Bhakti Bhagavata Mahakavyam is Jaivadeva`s first literary work. The detail descriptions and subject matters of each canto reveal the poet`s high imagination and nobility of thoughts.
Cantos of Bhakti Bhagavata Mahakavyam
The 1st to 9th cantos contain the description of Devaki Garbhadharana, Krsihnavatara, Vrindavana Pravesa, Kaliyadahana, Govindabhiseka, Pratyanga Varnana, Vastra Harana and Rasarambho etc.
Then from 10th to 32nd cantos include Raslila, Mathura Pravesa, Kama Vidhvamsana, Ballavi Sandesa, Jarasandha Vadharn, Kaliyavana Samjavana, Kondina Prayana, Rukmini Harana, Satyabhama. Parinaya, Lakshya Bheda, Parijata Harana, Usha Parinaya, Indraprastha Pravesa, Sisupala Vadha, Murti Dadanam, Dvarika Varnana, Raivata Varnana, Ritu Varnana, Vasanta varnana, Jajakeli Kutuhala, Nistandra Candrodaya, Nama Sambhoga Varnana and Dinakr Tyavinoda Varnanam
Besides being literary significant Bhakti Bhagavata Mahakavyam is also of historically important.
