Barkatullah University was named after great freedom fighter Prof. Barkatullah. The university caters to the educational needs of Bhopal, Sehore, Vidisha, Raisen, Betul, Hoshangabad, Harda and Rajgarh. There are 64 Government colleges and 159 private colleges affiliated to the University.
The University offers under graduate, post graduate courses certificate courses, diploma courses and research programmes through 23 departments. The faculties are Faculty of Social Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Life Science and Faculty of Law. The University also offers 26 job oriented self finance courses. The University has an Institute of Technology and a management college namely Chakravarti Rajgopalachari Institute of Management. The Institute has been recognised by All India Council for Technical Education and offers courses in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Science & Engineering. The Management institute offers MBA degree with specialization in Marketing, Human Resource, Health System, Information Technology, Finance and Rural and Urban Management. The University received B grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
