Balakhilyas are the Pigmy sages. They measure almost the size no bigger than a joint of the thumb. The Balakhilyas are very chaste, pious and resplendent as the sun, whose chariot they constantly surround. It is said that the wife of the sage Kratu Sannati brought forth the sixty thousand Balakhilyas. As per another legend, the Balakhilyas were produced from the hair of Brahma.
