A person with BMI of up to 25 is considered normal, 25 to 29 .9 is considered overweight, 30 to 34.9 is considered obese and 35 to 39.9 is considered severely obese. BMI above 40 is considered morbid obesity.

Obesity According to Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, obesity is termed as Sthaulya. It is also called as Medoroga, as the medas (fat) is the main cause for this condition. Ayurveda says obesity occurs due to kapha disorder. Ayurvedic Massage to Cure Obesity
As per Ayurveda, kapha dosha can be removed by replacing it with the vata dosha. Rubbing and heating can dissolve kapha. These are the main points that must be observed when treating obesity.

In Ayurveda there is a special dry massage technique called `Udwartan`, in which medicated powder is rubbed over the whole body. This is believed to dissolve the excess fat from the body. It is a very safe method. Still it should be supervised by ayurvedic physician.

The `vasti` named as `lekhan vasti` is thought to be beneficial as it scraps away all the adipose tissue from the body. Various drugs like guggulu, trikatu, shilajitu etc. reduce the internal fat of the body.

Exercise, massage with special herbal oils, walk, Sveda karma (sweat bath) besides the prescribed drugs, are some of the other remedies. The diet should strictly follow the Ayurvedic physician`s advice.
