Artha

Artha is a method through which right desires can be fulfilled. The desires can be in the lower sense like food, drink, money, house, land and other property; and in the higher sense like worship. It is important that a man should have a right desire - for man is subject to dharma that regulates them. The means sought should also be virtuous.

Trivarga must be cultivated while man is upon the Pravritti Marga. Till one reaches the path of renunciation man must work for the ultimate goal by practicing dharma through lawful means as lawful desires give birth to righteous acts. While one is on the pravritti marga the trivarga should be cultivated.
