Anula is a female Buddhistic Arhat or saint, who introduced the Buddhistic religion into Lanka or Ceylon during Asoka`s rule. She was married to Mahanaga, the younger brother of Mahendra. She received the dignity of a female Arhat from Sanghamitra, the sister of Mahendra. It is said that she killed the brother of her husband by poison as well as his son Tishya and four paramours whom she married in succession. Later, the second son of her husband`s brother called Mahakula Kalakanatishya revolted and caused her death in the year 41 B.C.
