Annamalai Reddiar is one of the most reputed authors from Tamil Nadu who has composed several literary works such as short stories, novels, drama and essays in Tamil language. Most of the Tamil literary works written by Annamalai Reddiar are admired and popular for their choice of elocution and their capability to utilize emotions and enthrall the minds of readers. Reddiar lived during the nineteenth century and composed many Tamil literary works of pillaittamil, antati and other poetical compositions.

Annamalai Reddiar also composed many poems in Tamil that were based on folklore. These were usually recited with the complement of kavaticcintu music, which comprises of a particular rhythm of its own. The well known Tamil poet and author composed the poetic works in Tamil language with a potent diction and profundity of meaning. These are chanted and vocalized by the devotees of Lord Kartikeya, alternatively known as Lord Murugan in Tamil, with kavati on their shoulders, while going towards the temple during certain festive occasions. During these festivities, the devotees of Murugan offer milk and flower to the Lord.

Annamalai Reddiar had gained massive knowledge in music which he utilised in the composition of his Tamil verses in kavaticcintu metre. His interesting poems were written in an eloquent and lucid style that possessed the power to captivate the minds of readers. The Tamil author Annamalai Reddiar gained remarkable fame and respect of the Tamil people through his soul stirring poetical and musical compositions.
