Ananta Charan Sai was a Chhau practitioner. He was born in a family of Chhau performers in Mayurbhanj in 1915. He studied under his father Radhamohan Sai and other masters such as Dibakar Bhanj Deo and Mohammad Rejak Khan. He started dancing professionally, patronized by the Maharaja of Mayurbhanj, Pratap Chandra Bhanj Deo. After India became independent, he promoted Chhau by teaching many disciples, particularly as Head Ustad (maestro) at Mayurbhanj Chhau Nritya Pratisthan in Baripada. This was the premier institute for training in this form. He also enriched it by adding new compositions to the traditional repertoire. Ananta Charan Sai died in 1989.
