Akhilesh was born in the city of Indore. He did a Diploma in Fine Arts. His paintings influenced by tribal and folk traditions of Madhya Pradesh. Later he moved to Textile Designing thereby shifting base to Bhopal.

His creations gives a feeling of being left unfinished and yet not incomplete. He uses lines that do not lend linearity to his work as they melt into the canvas and refusing to lend typical linear characteristics. His paintings are fresh and the colors reverberate with emotions. He sticks to the familiar ground. His paintings hardly crave for attention and have little to offer for a casual viewer.
