Ajith Kumar, Indian ActorAjith Kumar is one of the prominent actors in the Tamil Film Industry. Although his debut movie was in Telugu, Prema Pustagam (1992), he remains busy with the Tamil films nowadays. Ajith Kumar is now recognised as one of the most important Tamil actors who have helped the Tamil film industry to grow. In 1993 his first Tamil film, Amaravathi was released. It was his first film in a lead role. The National Award winning movie Kadhal Kottai brought recognition for Ajith Kumar. In this film he plays the role of an anonymous lover.

Ajith`s first big budget venture was Aasai but it was released after Agathiyan`s Vaanmathi. The latter and Kadhal Kottai established him as a romantic hero. With Ullasam Ajith Kumar established himself as one of the highest paid stars in the Tamil film industry. Vaali (1999) gave his career a boost. Ajith Kumar is seen in a double role in the Tamil film. This film fetched him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 2000 Ajith performed with Mammooty, Abbas, Tabu and Aishwarya Rai in Kandukondain Kandukondain. Mugavari followed in 2001 with Ajith and Jyothika as the lead pair.

Dheena was a major hit directed by A.R. Murugadas. This movie depicted Ajith as an unruly youth. Several movies followed like Citizen with Vasundhara Das and Red, a movie in the action genre. Ajith Kumar won two the Filmfare Best Actor Awards once again for Citizen. Poovellam Un Vasam and Raja opposite Jyothika followed in 2002. In the following years Ajith appeared in Anjaneya, Jana and Attagasam opposite Meera Jasmine, Sneha, and Pooja respectively. These films did not do well at the box office. Ajith Kumar then went onto star in Varalaru, directed by K. S. Ravikumar, where he played triple roles. The film was one of the top grosser of the year.

In 2007 Ajith kumar appeared in Aalwar but the film did not fare well at the box office. Kireedam opposite Trisha Krishnan gave him back his stature as the popular Tamil actor. But the much-awaited film of 2007 was the magnum opus, Billa. The film enjoyed a huge release throughout the world. It was also the first Tamil film to be released with English sub titles. The film was a remake of Rajnikanth starrer 1980 Tamil film Billa. The film was directed by Vishnuvardhan and Ajith Kumar acted opposite Nayanthara, Namitha and Rose Dawn. The film was a runaway hit. Aegan was his next film in 2008 which was an average. In 2009 he delivered a major hit named Aasal.
