Air Marshal Fali Homi Major

Air Marshal Fali Homi Major assumed the charge of the Chief of the Air Staff on 31 Mar 07.

Air Marshal Fali Homi MajorAir Marshal Fali Homi Major was born on May 29, 1947 in Secunderabad. He received his education from Wesley High School. After completing his education he joined in the Indian Air Force on 31st Dec 1967 as a helicopter pilot. He has the distinction of flying 7765 hours on the sentinel. He held several important posts during his 39 years of service. He commanded the MI - 17 squadron at the time of Indian Peace Keeping operations in Srilanka. Fali Homi Major was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) during this tenure. In 1992 as a station commander of he Air Force Station `Sarsawa` he led the rescue operation team in Himachal Pradesh save the life of several tourists. For this exceptional performances he was awarded Shaurya Chakra award. He was the Joint Director of Helicopter Operations and later Director Operations of Transport & Helicopter. For excellent leadership in the Kargil War Fali Homi Major was bestowed the `Ati Vishist Seva Medal` in Jan 2002 and subsequently rose to the rank of Air Vice Marshal in Feb 2002 and was posted at Air Headquarters as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel Airmen & Civilians).

Air Marshal Fali Homi Major was promoted to the rank of Air Marshal in 2004 and was appointed to the HQ of Integrated Defense Staff as the Deputy Chief. During this time he was responsible for the relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations of the Indian Air Forces. In 2005, Fali Homi Major was promoted to the rank of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, and was appointed in the Eastern Air Command. During this time he successfully executed three main international air exercises with the United States Air Force, Royal Singapore Air Force and the French Air Force. Fali Homi Major was awarded the `Param Vishisht Seva Medal` by the President of India on 26 Jan 2006.He commanded the IAF`s first Mi-17 Squadron, over Siachen Glacier which is the World`s highest battlefield. The President of India conferred him with `Param Vishisht Seva Medal` in 2006. He assumed the charge of the Chief of the Air Staff on 31st Mar 07

Air Marshal Fali Homi Major graduated from National Defence College, New Delhi, and the Army War College, Mhow.Apart from that Fali Homi Major did several courses including Higher Command Course, Jungle and Snow Survival Course etc.He was appointed as a the honorary ADCs of the Supreme Commander. Fali Homi Major is very keen to sports .He is very good golfer and a cricket fan.
