Ahmedgarh

Ahmedgarh is a city in the Sangrur district in the state of Punjab in the Indian subcontinent. Falling in the tehsil of Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh is regarded as a sub-tehsil. According to the census of 2001, Ahmedgarh has a population of 70000. Ahmedgarh is founded by Nawab Ahmed Ali Khan of Malerkotla in the year 1905. This city lies 18 kilometers north to the tehsil of Malerkotla on the road of Sangrur in Ludhiana. Ahmedgarh lies 50 kilometers from the Sangrur district headquarters, 26 kilometers from Ludhiana and 98 kilometers from the Chandigarh.

The sub-tehsil of Ahmedgarh is also regarded as an important agricultural market. The main crops traded in this agricultural market are paddy and wheat. In the recent times a number of small-scale industries are being established in and around this place, as it will benefit from all the facilities from the two industrial towns of Malerkotla and Ludhiana, which are at a short distance. The area is well known for the manufacture of modern agricultural implements like `khurpas`, `kahis` and `daties`. The city also has all sorts of facilities like a g=higher secondary school for boys, two high school for girls, a civil dispensary, a rest house and a post and telegraph office. A class III municipal committee has been functioning in the town since the year of 1924.
