Adrika

Adrika is said to be the mother of the Vedas. The main Parasara used to cross the Ganges River from one bank to the other bank occasionally. For, this a ferry boat was employed, which was paddled by a fisherman`s daughter. He fell attracted towards her. As a result, he blessed her with a son.

Again, another story in Sanskrit describes that Adrika was an apsara of Devaloka. She was transformed into a fish as a result of Saapa of Brahma and lived in the river Yamuna. One day while hunting in forest the king was thinking of his beautiful wife Girika. In this process, his semen came out and he collected them in a small bowel made of green leaves. He tied the bowel to the neck of an eagle and directed the eagle to deliver the bowel to his wife Girika. But, on the way another eagle thought it to be some eatable and tried to snatch it. In this way, the bowel fell on the river Yamuna and the semen fell on the mouth of the fish form of Adrika and she became pregnant. One day, the fish Adrika was caught in the net of a fisherman. The fisherman cut the fish and found one male child and one female child. Immediately, Adrika was transformed to her original form of Apsara and went to Devaloka.
