Located at the heart of the city of Guwahati in Assam, Dighali Pukhuri is a man- made pond. The pond and the garden together spread across a total area of almost 5 to 6 acres of land. Currently, the Dighali Pukhuri is one of the most prominent tourist spots in the city, where the tourists can enjoy boat rides and other recreational activity.
History of Dighali Pukhuri
Once a naval yard used by the Ahoms in the ancient time, the Dighali Pukhuri is a rectangular man made pond that was built by Bhagadatta. Once, the pond was linked to the Brahmaputra River but its access was eventually closed and during the colonial times, on the newly filled areas, the Circuit House and the Guwahati High Court building were built.
