Laitlum Canyons is one of the most amazing and picturesque tourist destinations, perched atop the East Khasi Hills of Shillong, Meghalaya. The Laitlum Canyons, which in literal sense means "The End of Hills". This place is remarkable due to its natural environmental formation. Perched at great heights, it is in fact the edge of a hill which is surrounded by green hills and valleys. The scenic hill slopes of Laitlum are often called the "Amphitheatre of Meghalaya".

Nestled in the majestic hills and valleys, the Laitlum Canyons is relatively less crowded and less commercial. Thus, it offers a serene and secluded spot for a peaceful break from the usual hustle bustle of city life. Most of the time, the canyons are shrouded in fog and that adds to their ethereal beauty. The route to the spot is a long, rocky, though verdure trail, which attracts trekkers, adventurers and nature lovers alike. The beauty of the canyons has been explored in the recent Bollywood film "Rock On 2".
Village in Laitlum Canyons
There is a small village called "Rasong" which has 300 odd inhabitants. The people of this village still rely on an old fashioned ropeway pulley to transport food and other commodities from the market in Shillong to them. The stairway that leads to Rasong has close to 6000 steps.
Visiting Information of Laitlum Canyons
The site is opened on all days for visitors; however the best time to visit Laitlum Canyons is during the morning hours as by afternoon the place is completely blanketed in fog. The distance between the canyons and Shillong is 23 kms.
