Vinesh Phogat is an Indian wrestler who belongs from the family of wrestling- and is the cousin to Geeta Phogat. She won the gold medal in women`s 50kg freestyle wrestling at 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

She comes from a very successful background of wrestling and her cousins are Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, both international wrestlers and Commonwealth Games medallists as well.
Early Life of Vinesh Phogat
Vinesh Phogat was born on 25th August in the year 1994. She is the daughter of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat's younger brother Rajpal. Her cousin, Ritu Phogat also is an international level wrestler and has won a gold medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship.
Career of Vinesh Phogat
Vinesh Phogat began her career from 2013. In 2013 Asian Wrestling Championships held in New Delhi, she won bronze medal in the women's freestyle 51 kilograms category. In 2013 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships held in South Africa, she won silver medal in the women's freestyle 51 kilograms category, losing in the final round to Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria. She represented India in the women's freestyle 48 kilograms category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won the gold medal.
In 2015 Asian Wrestling Championships in Doha, Qatar, she won silver medal in the women's freestyle 48 kilograms category, losing the final bout to Yuki Irie of Japan. In the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Rio Olympics held in Istanbul, she won the final round beating Polish wrestler Iwona Matkowska and qualified for the Olympics in the process. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, she reached the Quarter Finals and lost to Sun Yanan of China due to a knee injury. Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal in women's 50 kilograms freestyle wrestling at 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
