Kalleda is located approximately 40 kilometres from Warangal, the ancient historical city in Telangana. Warangal was the capital during the time of Kakatiya Dynasty. Kalleda is located at 17 degree 43 minutes and 22 seconds North and 79 degree 43 minutes 27 Seconds east. This village has an elevation of 750 feet from the sea level. But the majority of Kalleda is Hindus. Kalleda has a small percentage of Muslims and Christians. In accordance with Hindu tradition, villagers celebrate the festivals of Ekadhashi Festival, Vinayaka Chavithi Festival, Raksha Bandhan, Dhasara Festival, Diwali , Ugadhi Festival, Makar Sankranti, and Holi. The staples of the diet for the people of Kalleda are Rice, lentils, and vegetable curries. Curd is also eaten at most meals. Chicken and mutton are prepared on special occasions such as festivals. Much of the food is flavoured with turmeric, chilli powder, cardamom, curry leaves and coriander. It is common for numerous generations of families to live together in one house. The marriages are arranged by the individuals’ families and generally take place when the woman is between 18 and 22 years old and the man is between 21 and 26 years old. Most of the women are housewives. Economy of Kalleda The majority of the villagers are farmers. They are dependent on the cultivation of the main food crops like rice and cotton. While most of the farmers are men, the women play an important role in rice transplanting. The monsoon season in the late summer and early fall months, is the primary season for planting food crops. Herders also play an important role in agriculture. It is their responsibility to lead the village water buffalo and goats to pasture each day. The villagers are also in occupation like tailors, toddy tappers, carpenters, drivers, shop-keepers, basket weavers and teachers. Sports in Kalleda The two most common indoor games played in Kalleda are Chess and Carrom . The outdoor games include cricket, volleyball, archery and football. The local college in Kalleda is Pai Junior College which is especially well known for its archery program. People from all parts of the country and the state visit the temple named Kolanu Venkateshwara Swamy Devalyam. Kolanu Venkateshwara Swamy Devalyam was built in 12th century, which is during the rule of Kakatiya Dynasty. The villagers in Kalleda often attend the temple on Saturdays to offer puja. This historic stone temple was built many centuries ago and was rebuilt in the year 2009. |
