Enclosed by scenic landscapes and mesmerizing serenity, the beach has always been popular amongst tourists. It lies near the small coastal fishing town called Tanur. The town has historical significance as it has been the witness of one of the earliest settlements of the Portuguese in India. It is believed that in 1546 AD, the place was visited by St. Francis Xavier.

Tanur Beach is ideal for roaming around and having a close rendezvous with nature. The cool shades of palm trees, the soft sand and vast sea make up a pleasant ambience for spending leisure. Visitors can often be spotted walking along the sea shore or spending relaxing hours under the sun. Bathing in the cascading waves amid the picturesque beauty is also a common activity here. The beach also provides glimpses of the lost glory of the place during the invasion of Portuguese. Keraladeshpuram temple stands nearby which attracts numerous devotees. It is believed to be one of the oldest temples of Kerala and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple was ravaged by Tipu Sultan in ancient times but was later reconstructed. Shobha Parambu Devi Temple, Vettakkorumakan Temple, Ayyapan Temple and Trikkaikattu Temple and Math are other nearby tourist attractions.

Tanur Beach is situated at a distance of 10 kilometres from the city of Tirur. For reaching Tanur Beach Kozikode International Airport, 36 kilometres away, serves as the nearest airport whereas the nearest railhead is Tanur railway station, 2 kilometres away. However the major railway station is located in Kozhikode. Buses can also be availed from Tanur bus stand, situated at a distance of 2 kilometres. Private cabs can also be hired by the tourists.
