Suraj Jagan is a popular playback singer of India who has voiced many cherished renditions of Bollywood. He is best known for his song 'Give Me Some Sunshine' from the Bollywood flick 3 Idiots. He is accredited as one of the pioneers of the Rock Music Movement in India. His works encompass solo songs, performances in successful rock bands, playback singing in Bollywood, advertising jingle campaigns and also acting in Hindi movies as well as theatre productions. He was the lead singer of the rock band called Dream Out Loud. The song "It's Raining Now" has been the most famous song of Suraj Jagan from this band.
Career of Suraj Jagan
Suraj Jagan started his career in the entertainment industry through working in popular advertisement jingle 'You and I in this beautiful world' for the award-winning "Hutch TVC" advertisement. Later in the year 1997 he stepped in Hindi film industry by singing the song 'Hum Naujawan Hai' for the film Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi.
The opportunity was presented to him by Vishal Dadlani, his fellow rock vocalist as well as the music director of the movie. Since the year 2007, he began doing playback for a number of films. His Bollywood renditions include 'Hey Jhonny' from Johnny Gaddar, 'No Big Deal' from Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and 'Dum Lagaa' from Dil Dosti Etc. His song 'Zehreelay' was featured in the movie Rock On!! and he also performed the song in the movie. He was also involved with the composition of the song and had portrayed a cameo role of 'Ajay' in the movie. It was claimed that 'Zehreelay' was the first Death Metal song that was used in a Hindi movie.
In the year 2009 he gathered much prominence in the Indian film industry with the song 'Give Me Some Sunshine' form the movie 3 Idiots. The song earned him the Best Emerging Male Performer Award in the Max Stardust Award. The composer of the song Shantanu Moitra had created the song only keeping Suraj Jagan's voice in mind. In the following years he sang songs for many other Bollywood flicks including 'Baby When You Talk To Me' from Patiala House, 'Dil Dil Hai' from 7 Khoon Maaf and 'Rang De' from My Name Is Khan. His song 'Sadka Kiya' from I Hate Luv Storys along with Mahalaxmi Iyer went on to become a chartbuster. Other films for which he has done playback singing include Lafangey Parindey, Shor in the City, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, Delhi Belly, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Ishaqzaade, ABCD: Any Body Can Dance and many others. Apart from Bollywood he has also done playback singing for Bengali and Tamil cinema. He has also delivered a plethora of live performances and has been associated with various music bands.
