Foundation of Indian Premier League
This international level cricket tournament started in 2008 and from then it usually takes place every year in the months of April - June, especially in summer. It is currently supervised by BCCI Vice-President Ranjib Biswal, who serves as the League's Chairman and Commissioner of Indian Premier League.
Imitation from English Premier League
Like English Premier League, IPL is the most-watched Twenty20 cricket league in the world and also known for its huge commercial success. Indian Premier League is currently sponsored by Pepsi and thus officially known as the Pepsi Indian Premier League.
Introduction of Twenty20 Matches
Twenty-twenty cricket match was first introduced by the England and Wales cricket board in 2003. But Indian Premier League is largely credited in projecting the format of the game onto the world stage. IPL was inaugurated in 2008. During the same period Zee "Indian Cricket League" was operational. It was an enormous success. The annual tournament, played mostly in Indian summer has gone from strength to strength and is largely viewed as being the 'richest' tournament in world cricket. Until 2012, the Indian Premier League (IPL) was sponsored by DLF, a real estate firm and has the primary business in the development of residential, commercial and retail properties, after they paid 50 million dollars for the five year sponsorship. Pepsi took over the contract for the 2013 IPL after paying close to 4 billion rupees for the 5 year contract. In 2008, Sony has the television broadcasting rights over a ten year period. IPL is now watched across the world.
Indian Premier League in 2008
Indian Premier League season in the year 2008 was the debut season of the Indian Premier League, established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007.Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is headquartered at Mumbai, is the national governing body for all cricket in India. The board was formed in December 1928 as BCCI replaced Calcutta Cricket Club. BCCI is a society, registered under the Tamil Nadu
Societies Registration Act. The IPL season commenced on 18th April 2008 with the final match held on 1st June 2008. The competition started with a double round robin group stage, in which each of the 8 teams played a home match and an away match against every other team. Indian Premier League in 2009
Indian Premier League season in 2009, abbreviated as IPL 2 was the second season of the Indian Premier League. The tournament was hosted by South Africa and was played between 18th April and 24th May 2009. It was the second biggest cricket tournament in the world, after the World Cup Cricket, and was forecast to have an estimated television audience of more than 200 million people in India alone. The IPL was hosted successfully in South Africa and was hailed as an "extraordinary" accomplishment. Indian Premier League in 2010
Indian Premier League season 2010 was abbreviated as IPL 3. IPL 3 was the third season of the Indian Premier League. Hosted by India and had an estimated television audience of more than 200 million people in the country, Indian Premier League 2010 was played between 12 March and 25 April 2010. The tournament was won by the Chennai Super Kings, who defeated the Mumbai Indians in the final played at Mumbai. The purple cap went to Pragyan Ojha
of Deccan Chargers, while the orange cap and the player of the tournament award went to Sachin Tendulkar
of the Mumbai Indians. Saurabh Tiwary was declared the Under 23 success of the tournament, while the Chennai Super Kings won the Fair Play Award.

Indian Premier League 2011, abbreviated as IPL 4 was the fourth season of the Indian Premier League, the top Twenty- twenty cricket league in India. IPL 4 was hosted in India and the opening and closing ceremonies were held inM.A. Chidambaram Stadium
, home venue of the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings. The season ran from 8 April to 28 May 2011, with huge success. In this season, the number of teams in the league went from eight to ten with the additions of the Pune Warriors India
and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The tournament was won by the Chennai Super Kings for the second successive season, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore
by 58 runs in the final in Chennai, with the winning team's Murali Vijay being named Man of the Match. With this win Chennai Super Kings became the only team to have won the IPL on more than one occasion.
Indian Premier League 2012
Indian Premier League 2012 session was the fifth season of the Indian Premier League, initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Began on 4 April and ended on 27 May 2012, Kolkata Knight Riders
were the winning team, beating defending champions Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the final match at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. This season the number of teams in the league went from ten to nine with the termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The top four teams of the tournament Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils
and Mumbai Indians represented India in the 2012 Champions League Twenty20 Tournament. The Fair Play Award was won by Rajasthan Royals, while Kings XI Punjab batsman Mandeep Singh was named the tournament's "Rising Star" and Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Sunil Narine was Player of the Season.
Indian Premier League 2013
2013 season of the Indian Premier League was the sixth season of the Indian Premier League. The tournament featured nine teams and was held from 3rd April to 26th May 2013. The opening ceremony was held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata
on 2nd April 2013. This was the first season with Pepsi enlisted IPL as the title sponsor. Kolkata Knight Riders were the defending champions, having won the 2012 season. Mumbai Indians won the tournament for the first time, defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final by 23 runs. This match was held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium

IPL 7 or Pepsi IPL 2014 is the seventh season of the IPL. The Mumbai Indians was the defending champions, having won the 2013 season after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final. There are eight teams this season, one fewer than 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India. The auction of the Indian Premier League players took place on 12 and 13 February 2014.A part of this season was held outside India after Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde
denied the provision of security the league demanded as it would clash with the 2014 Indian general elections

Indian Premier League 2015
The 2015 season of the Indian Premier League, abbreviated as IPL 8 was the eighth season of the IPL, a Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. Indian Premier League 2015 featured eight teams and was held from 8 April 2015 to 24 May 2015. The opening ceremony of Indian Premier League 2015 was held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on 7 April 2015. Kolkata Knight Riders were the defending champions having won the title in the 2014 season. In the year 2015, Mumbai Indians won the match against Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens Stadium.

2016 Indian Premier League
is the ninth season of the professional Twenty20 cricket league that was established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI) in 2007. The tournament was played between 9 April 2016 and 29 May 2016. In the final match, the Sun Risers Hyderabad won the final match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
