Raghubir Yadav in Theatres
Raghubir Yadav started his career through theatres, where he worked as an actor as well as singer in various plays. Initially he joined the Parsi Theatre Company from the year 1967 to 1973 and performed in more than 70 plays and 2500 shows. During this period, he used to travel in caravans along with the theatre group, lived in tents and performed on makeshift stages in different towns, cities and villages. From 1973 to 1974 he was associated with the Rangoli Puppet Theatre where he used to perform with glove puppets. He also performed in about 40 plays and 2000 shows at the National School of Drama Repertory from 1977 to 1986. As a thespian he has also contributed much to masks, costumes, sets and music of the plays, in addition to acting.
Raghubir Yadav in Movies
Raghubir Yadav made his cinematic debut in 1985 with his movie Massey Sahib where he played the title role. He was featured along with noted social activist and writer Arundhati Roy. Through his powerful acting in the movie, he won two international awards namely FIPRESCI Critic's Award, Venice Film Festival, 1986 and the Best Actor Silver Peacock, IIFI, 1987. In the following decades he appeared in a number of milestone movies. His three movies viz. Water, Lagaan and Salaam Bombay! received Academy Award nominations for Best Foreign Language Film. Raghubir Yadav is also famed for being the only Indian actor who received the Silver Peacock Best Actor Award, at the International Film Festival of India. Raghubir Yadav's most admired role was the drug addicted "Chillum" in the movie Salaam Bombay! (1988). His another acclaimed movie was Dear Friend Hitler (released in India as Gandhi To Hitler) in 2011 which was based on the two letters that Mahatma Gandhi wrote to Adolf Hitler, one just before the World War II in 1939 and the other in the Christmas Eve of 1940 in an attempt to stop the war. He also worked in a Telugu movie called Minugurulu.
Raghubir Yadav in Television
Television career of Raghubir Yadav began in 1990 with the television series Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne in which he played the lead role of Mungerilal. Later he worked in another TV show Mulla Nasiruddin, as Haji Nasruddin, and in Chacha Chaudhary playing the lead role.

Raghubir Yadav has composed music for several movies and has also sung for them. Such movies include Delhi 6, Billu Barber, Ramaji Londonwaale, Darna Mana Hai, Rudaali, Massey Sahib and many more. His song in Aamir Khan's movie Peepli Live earned him huge accolades. He also voiced the title song of the TV show Chacha Chaudhary. Yadav also sang for various advertisements for companies like Britannia, Maggie Mania, Midday, Coke, Kotak Mahindra and others. He had also composed numerous songs for theatres. Lately, he also sang in collaboration with Hitesh Sonik in the TV show Coke Studio at MTV, Season 2.
