Eventually the Maratha army besieged Ghodbunder Fort and successfully occupied the fortress by defeating the Portuguese forces in the year 1737. Later the forces of the British East India Company occupied the structure and established their headquarters for the administration of the district. There is an ancient church in the vicinity of Ghodbunder Fort which was founded by the Portuguese. There are two angels that engraved on the inner walls of the church. Presently the Portuguese church has been transformed into a hotel. Presently Ghodbunder Fort lies in a ruined state. However the Government of India has began work to renovate and repair the structure. The site is now open to tourists throughout the year. This article is a stub.
