Tourist Places in Vickramasingapuram Vickramasingapuram, an important tourist spot is known for the enchanting Manjolai Hills located at an elevation ranging between 1000 to 1500 metres. The hills are located with the Western Ghats Mountain Range. The Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve is situated close to it. Perched atop the Manimuthar Water Falls and the Manimuthar Dam, Manjolai Hills concentrates mainly upon tea plantation. Over the time small settlements have developed around the hills. The Upper Kodaiyar Dam located nearby serves as an interesting site for the tourists. The Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd operates the Tea Plantations as well as the Manjolai Estates. The Manjolai area comprises of 3 Tea Estates, the Manimutharu Estate, Manjolai Estate and Oothu Estate. Besides the Manjolai Hills, there are several other tourist locations in Vickramasingapuram to attract the attention of the tourists. The Papanasam River located at a distance of 2 kilometres from Vickramasingapuram, the Papanasam (Lower) Dam, Papanasam (Upper) Karaiyar Dam, Manimutthaar Dam and the Servalar Dam situated here are worth visiting. The Karaiyar Dam located at a distance of 49 km from Tirunelveli serves as a beautiful picnic spot. Apart from this the captivating Agasthiar falls and the Baana Theertham falls further enhance the beauty of the Vickramasingapuram. The Agasthiar falls is almost 100 m in height over a rock. The fall is enveloped by thick forests and through it the Thamirabarani Riverdescends into the plains. The Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve developed as a National Tiger Reserve since 1988 is another prominent place to visit here. The reserve houses cats, dhole, jackals, striped hyena, panthers, civets, jungle and other animals. It is believed by the Hindus that by bathing in the water here all sins are washed away. The Papavinaswehwara temple is located in the vicinity of the waterfall. |
