Economy of Thachur
The main source of income for the people here is agriculture. Inhabitants from different places have settled down here and are working as farmers. The main product of the village is milk. Sugarcane is also cultivated here on a large scale. Two major sugar factories have been established here. The town is thus, also known as the 'sugar city.'

Thachur is an important pilgrimage centre visited by many devotees. Some of the significant temples located here are Amirtha kandeswarar Aalayam dedicated to Lord Shiva, Periyayee Kovil, Veera Payangaram Temple, Amman Temple and Lord Shiva Temple. Besides this, there are few churches here visited by the Christians. These are St.Antony Crusade, Jebamalai Annai Church, Baptist church and St. Joseph church.
