Bassi Pathana is a city as well as a municipal council in the Fatehgarh Sahib district in the state of Punjab in the northwestern part of India. The state of Punjab has twenty districts and the Fatehgarh Sahib district is one of them.
As per the 2001 India census, the city of Bassi Pathana has a population of 18,547. Males make up 52% of the population and females comprise 48%. Bassi Pathana has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the nationwide standard of 59.5%. 54% of the males and 46% of the females are literate. 10% of the population is children less than 6 years of age. As far as legend goes, Bassi Pathana was established in 1540. It was a city of Muslim Pathans and hence the name Bassi Pathana. The 9th Sikh master Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and the 10th Sikh Master Guru Gobing Singh Ji came to visit this place. There are two Gurdwaras in the city in their honor. This city harbors one of the world's two temples of Lord Brahma, the other one being at Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan. The name of the temple is Brahmghat. A sage called Rishi Gajawanand is believed to have meditated here for years. Bassi Pathana is known for manufacturing industrial sewing machine parts.
