Barajamda is a census town situated in the Pashchimi Singhbhum or West Singhbhum district in the state of Jharkhand in India. It was born in the year 1990, when the previous Singhbhum district was bifurcated. The district headquarters are situated in Chaibasa.
The district is surrounded on the north by the Ranchi district, on the east by the Saraikela Kharsawan district, on the south by the Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundergarh districts of the state of Orissa and on the west by the Gumla district of Jharkhand and theSundargarh district of Orissa. The West Singhbhum district is packed with the dense forests and hills and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. There are large iron ore deposits in the districts, which are constantly being mined to provide for the growing demand for this raw material, which is primarily used in the production of steel.
As per the 2001 India census, the population of Barajamda is 7691. Males and females respectively make up 52% and 48% of the population. Barajamda has a mean literacy rate of 52%, lower than the nationwide average of 59.5%. 62% of the males and 38% of the females are literate. Children below six years of age comprise 17% of the total population.
