Untouchable is one of the latest Indian Graphic Novels, published and distributed in India and abroad by Liquid Comics, which was formerly known as Virgin Comics. The illustrated original horror story of Untouchable explores several subject matters of racial injustice during the rule of the British Empire in India, but with a tinge of the supernatural. Untouchable is a gripping horror story which revolves around the clash of different cultures. The central character is man with a mixed race which has alienated him from the society. He has no friends, supporters or shelter. He eventually meets a female demonic entity, who is also an outcast just like him. Untouchable is written by popular Indian comics writer Samit Basu and Mike Carey, which makes it one of the major collaborations between the East and the West, for the first time. it is illustrated by Ashok Bhadan and the letters are by Nilesh P. Kudale.
Content of Untouchable
The plot of the graphic novel Untouchable revolves around young Vimal who is an outcast and is continuously tormented and bullied by other kids in the society. He is new in England and away from his home in India. He desperately tries to fit in to the new culture and society that rejects to accept him. As Vimal has never met with his biological father, his schoolmates taunt him that he is the offspring of a horrific demon who impregnated his human mother. During the course of the story, Vimal inadvertently awakens an ancient Rakshasa from Indian folklore, known as Jara. The demonic creature, who was asleep for several centuries, possesses disturbing beauty and spiteful power. This incident changes the course of his life in an evil way.
Jara befriends Vimal and realizes his pain and anger. The demonic entity turns his suffering into a craving for revenge. She also offers a magic powder to Vimal which will help him in avenging his pains and teaching a lesson to the bullies. But there is a deep dark agenda hidden behind all the help that Jara provides and Vimal is set to find out the reality soon. The rest of the plot uncovers the tale of Vimal's quest to find the truth about his father.
Untouchable, the graphic novel was also launched digitally through the Apple iPad, in addition to publishing.
