The Nihali have lived in a symbiotic but socially inferior relationship with the Korku people. They are bilingual in Korku, with Nihali spoken to prevent the Korku from understanding them. The history of Nihalis reveals a massacre that was organized by one of the rulers in the area in the early nineteenth century. Since then, Nihali group has come down in size.
