Condolim Beach is located 14 kms north of Panaji
in the state of Goa
. The beach is a part of a long extension of beach coastline along the Arabian Sea that begins at Fort Aguada and ends at Chapora Beach. It is thus considered as the flagship beach of Goa. This place is also famous as it is the birth place of Abba Faria, considered to be one of Goan freedom fighters and the Father of Hypnotism.
The white sandy Candolim beach beautified by the scrub-covered dunes has been a major attraction for the tourists visiting this place. The beach is quiet and calm as compared to the other crowded beaches of Goa and looks charming with the bountiful beauty of nature. The Candolim beach offers various water-sports activities parasailing, water-skiing, wind surfing and so on. Fishing is an activity for those who love peaceful and quiet environment. Yoga and meditation has also gained popularity here because of the idyllic atmosphere. Special beach excursions are also arranged in Candolim beach where interested tourists are taken right to the core of the sea from where they get a glimpse of the enchanting sunset. Such excursions are worth experiencing giving the feel of the sun transposing into orange and then gradually sinking into the sea. Candolim's nightlife is very calm and peaceful.
There are a lot of makeshift bars and restaurants made from wood and palm leaves on the beachside. Tourists can stop at a small taverna (bar) for a drink of feni which is a locally brewed drink made from cashew or coconut. The beach provides wide range of accommodations to its tourists. Few of these luxury resorts behind the beach also offer yoga and meditation session to the tourists. These sessions transports them on a sense of relaxation from all the stress and fatigue.
Apart from the beautiful beach of Candolim there are other tourist spots to visit in the close vicinity. The Aguada Fort is the greatest attraction of the Candolim Beach .The fort was built by the Portuguese in the 16th centaury for fortification against the Dutch and the Maratha invaders. Along with the fort the church, lighthouse and the garrison of the Aguada Jail have also been a part of tourist attractions. There are many resorts, villas and guest houses around this fort.
