Etymology of Scandal Point
Scandal Point receives its name from the local story that narrates the supposed elopement of a British Lady with Maharaja of Patiala. Popularly it was believed that the Maharaja of Patiala was in love with the daughter of the Viceroy and decided to abduct her when she was having her usual walk in Mall Road. This took place at the highest point of Mall road which was later on known as Scandal point after the incident.
Tourism in Scandal Point
Scandal Point has been one of the most attractive places of Shimla which provides great opportunity for photography. The area also includes some good restaurants of Indian and Western cuisines. Besides this, Scandal point is the biggest center of public life in Shimla. It is surrounded with General Post Office and the Scotland Church which is located just behind the Scandal point. Another attraction of this place is the statue of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. The picturesque view of the valley and the surrounding milky White Mountain peaks attract people from different places. Apart from the above ones, tourists also enjoy horse riding in this place.
