Ramakanta Choudhury (1846-89) was one of he poets who were responsible for introducing a new thing in Assamese poetical orchestra thereby reviving the music by enlarging the scope. His blank verse epic Abhimanyu inzdh's theme has been inspired by Mahabharata. The poem reveals the influences of a new technique. It also shows originality and the power to utilise natural expression in the new verse-form. This is a technically developed poem. His two mythological dramas are Sita haran and Ravan vadh.
He is considered as one of the innovators of blank verse. His inspiration was Michael Madhusudan Dutta.
