This river, which originates at Nandi hill drain out the surplus water from the surroundings of Bengaluru city. This saves the city from flood and utilizes the water for irrigation purpose. The other outlet Kumudini that originates at Shiva Ganga joins with Akravati to form a sangam on River Kaveri.
