The Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design is given by Filmfare in its annual Filmfare Awards to the costume designer who conceives, designs and finalises the most appropriate costumes for the characters in a Hindi film of the preceding year, as per the background of the film and the characters in its plot.
This award was first given in 1996 to famous costume designer Manish Malhotra for the costume designs of the film ‘Rangeela’ released in 1995. It was next given only in 2007 and has been subsequently presented since then.
Costume designer Dolly Ahluwalia has been awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design 3 times and the duo of Manoshi Nath and Rushi Sharma have been honoured twice.
Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design at 61st Filmfare Awards
In the 61st Filmfare Awards held in January 2016, critically and commercially successful film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ was recognised with the Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design. The award was presented to Anju Modi and Maxima Basu for their appropriately and vividly designed costumes of the film’s characters.
