 The Sanjay Chopra award is a civilian award, given to the brave children in India for showing heroic acts. The award is given under the National Bravery Awards, which was incepted in the year 1957, by the first Prime Minister of India, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. The Sanjay Chopra Award was introduced in the year 1978, in memory of one of the two Chopra children, who laid their lives, while confronting their kidnappers. Their name was Sanjay and Geeta and the Sanjay Chopra Award is given to the boys under the age of 16 years, only. Since its inception in 1978, a large number of brave boys have received the award. The award is posthumously given to the winners, as well. The Sanjay Chopra awardees receive the award from the Prime Minister of India.
