In the year 1998, 19 people from different fields received the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award from the Government of India. The Government of India has been presenting the award on a regular basis since the year 1954 and the main objective is to recognise extraordinary talents in various sectors. The Padma Bhushan Award is ranked third amongst all the civilian awards presented in India, just behind the Bharat Ratna Award and the Padma Vibhushan Award. The winners of this award get special honour from the people of all parts of the Indian society. The people from India and also from abroad can get the award for their achievements in their respective fields.
